We kicked off yet another set of Centers this morning! Remember boys and girls...tomorrow is your last day to work on your author study in class!!

After recess, we were treated to an Archeological treat!! Fun!!



We continued to work on our Grocery List writing piece. Most groups are working on the presentation step.

We then enjoyed a short period of Phys Ed, and wrapped up the day with our Diary of an Explorer writing piece.

Activites from Day 4 of Centers were collected this morning. We will start new on Thursday.

After recess, we completed the cloud activity that we started on Friday. Students were also given a 5 day homework piece in regards to clouds. This activity is due on Monday and is homework for the next 4 days. Students then looked at some weather instruments and how they can make them. Students need a jar for Monday. We will be making barometers.

We then continued to work on our Diary of an Explorer activity.

During Math, we completed Pods...
1) Mrs. Clark - Transformations
2) Mrs. Gale - 3-D objects
3) Mrs. Shields - Geometry in the Real World

We opened up the day by completing Day 3 of Centers. We were joined by two guests from Yorkton, Mrs. Muir and Mrs. Smith, who were here to observe Centers and how they work. The boys and girls were wonderful ambassadors for our classroom.

After recess, we completed Math pods.
1) Computers.
2) Terminology and connections to the real world.
3) Attributes of shapes.

We were able to join and be a part of welcoming CTV into our community this afternoon. Please tune in to the news this evening to see if you can spot a grade 5 student! Our class was also filmed performing on the drums.

Sorry for missing the previous two days posts. I have been away at meetings.

We finished our latest set of Centers and will start new tomorrow.

After recess, we worked through Math pods.
1) Computers
2) Students identifies various shape attributes on the buildings they printed out last class/Tangram activity
3) Reviewed shape attribute activity from yesterday.

We continued to work on our Voice Grocery List. Students are to pick their best item and take it through to Presentation using Word. We will presenting these to the class next week! I'm excited to hear the voice within these pieces.

Students then had Phys Ed.

We finished the day with Social Studies and our Diary of an Explorer activity.

We started a new set of Centers this morning. Keep working hard on your author studies boys and girls!

After recess, we worked through Math pods.
1) We discussed more attributes that we can use to describe shapes (perpendicular, intersecting, vertical, and horizontal). We hunted for pictures in magazines that reflect these attributes.
2) Students continued to practice the various attirbutes from the previous class (equal sides, parallel sides, and verticies). We also emptied our binders.
3) Computers

We then continued to work on our Grocery Lists. Some groups are editing while others are still working on their rough draft.

After lunch, we continued to work on our Explorer diary writing activity.

French and Phys Ed rounded off our week!

We wrapped up Day 4 of Centers this morning and all activities were collected.

After recess, students were given their science tests back. Please return these asap. We also started to discuss our first lesson in our next unit, Weather. We will be talking about hot and cold air.

Students then headed to Art.

After lunch, we wrote our Decimals unit test in math.

Phys Ed wrapped up the day.

Students were introduced to a new set of Centers this morning and completed Day 1. We are continuing to work our Author Studies. Students should be near done reading, or finished at this point. If students have a significant amount of reading left, they are encouraged to read their book at home.

After recess, we discussed and corrected our Math unit review. The Decimals unit test will be on Thursday, May 23.

Students then exchanged their library books before lunch.

After lunch we were treated to a wonderful Grade 5 drama performance. Great job boys and girls!!

The day ended in Phys Ed.

We continued with Problem Solving this morning. Students also worked on their novel studies.

After recess, we worked through 3 Math Pods.
1) Adding and Subtracting Decimals
2) Estimating Sums of Decimals
3) Computers

We started to work on our partner write during 6+1 before lunch. Students are using Voice to liven up a grocery list. I'm excited to see what they come up with.

After lunch, the students were introduced to their next Social Studies project. Students will be incorporating Voice into 4 diary entries they write as a Canadian explorer. We reviewed the assignment as well as the rubric today. We will start researching next class.

Students then had French and Phys Ed.

After recess, we went over our Science review together. Remember that our unit test is on Wednesday, May 15.

We completed Day 3 of Centers this morning. We will wrap up all of the activities tomorrow during Day 4.

After recess, we worked through 3 stations in Math.
1) Computers
2) Changing fractions to decimals
3) Ordering decimals

We then took a few minutes to look at our last activity working with the Voice trait. Students will be adding voice to a shopping list of 4 items. The students have been encouraged to have fun with this activity and use a voice in their writing that they may typically not utilize.

We wrapped up day 2 of the Center cycle this morning.

After recess, the students completed a short assessment on writing decimals. We then worked on changing a fraction to a decimal that does not have a denominator of 10, 100, or 1000.

The students then exchanged their library books before lunch.

After lunch, we spend one last period writing our "Finding Your Voice" narratives. If students did not finish during class, they were told it is homework. The activity is due tomorrow morning.

French and Phys Ed finished off the day.

Students were introduced to a new set of Center activities this morning. We are continuing to read our Gordon Korman novels. Some students are wrapping up their reading and beginning to work on their activities.

After recess, we completed three stations in Science.
1) Identifying the simple machines used in a cartoon (complex machine)
2) Identifying the simple machines used in a pair of scissors
3) Unit review.
Our unit test for Forces and Simple Machines will be on Wednesday, May 15.

We then took some time to review our Mask writing activity and how to utilize the Voice trait. We will continue to work on this trait for a few more weeks.

After lunch, we completed 3 Math stations. The students are doing a wonderful job with Decimals.

3) Representing Fractions and Decimals

We started out the morning wrapping up Day 4 of Centers. We are continuing to work on our novel study at teacher table. Some students have completed their reading and are starting on their activities.

After recess, we enjoyed the Music Monday assembly.

We then wrote our open book Social Studies test.

We continued to sharpen our decimal skills in a short Math class after lunch. We practiced writing numbers with decimals in words and vice versa.

French and Phys Ed ended off our day.

We worked through 4 stations this morning as we had a few students missing due to bus cancellations therefore we didn't run centers. We worked through...
1) Gordan Korman novel study
2) Computers
3) Study for Math/Social Studies
4) Simple Machines - building of the various machines

After recess, we completed three stations in Math.
1) Computers
2) Study for tomorrow's unit test.
3) Designed vegetable gardens that we will use to introduce Decimals on Friday.

We then worked on a graphic organizer titled "Finding Your Voice." The students had to pick an event that is unique to their family and brainstorm a list of ideas that they could use to describe this event using a voice unique to them. After lunch, students began to write a short story using this graphic organizer to guide them.

We wrappd up the day with a Louis Riel video that discussed some of the battles that he was a part of, as well as his trial.

We kicked off a new week with day 1 of centers. The students are continuing to work on reading their Gordon Korman novels at Guided Reading.

After recess, we completed 3 stations in Science.
1) Computers
2) Wheel and Axles
3) Inclined Planes

Students were given the test date for their open book Social test...Monday, May 6. We went over the importance of organization and reviewing their notes to study.

After lunch, we completed 3 stations for Math.
1) Subtraction with borrowing
2) Equivalent fractions
3) Fractions on a number line
Our fractions unit test will be on Thursday, May 2. The students will get their review tomorrow.

The day finished in Phys Ed.

We completed Day 2 of Centers this morning. The students each choose a Gordon Korman book for their novel study. We will be incoporating all of the reading strategies we have looked at from the year into the novel study.

After recess, we worked through 3 Math stations.
1) Computers
2) Fraction Number Lines
3) Comparing Fractions

We then continued to work on our Voice Masks during Writing. After lunch, we used these masks to begin writing our narrative pieces that use the mask as a voice.

Mrs. Bernath took the students for Phys Ed today before the last recess.

We also continued to work on our Social Studies First Nations Legends children's books. Some students are wrapping up this activity.

The students were introduced to a new set of Centers today and completed day 1. We wrapped up our synthesis unit at guided reading and will start with our novel study tomorrow.

The students had library with Mrs. Schentag before lunch.

We started working on our masks during 6+1 Writing. The students will be using these masks for a writing activity tomorrow.

I would like to congratulate the students on a job well done at the track meet yesterday. I was impressed!

We completed Day 3 of Centers this morning.

After recess, we continued to work on comparing fractions. The students used various manipulatives to help them to compare. The Pods were as follows...
1) Computers
2) Comparing fractions using manipulatives
3) Pizza Fraction game

Students then shifted into Writing where they used quick writes to practice using voice in their writing. We are working on showing feeling and expression in our writing. The students completed two quick writes....1) you are being chased by a dog and are very fearful, 2) you are floating on a lake and are feeling very relaxed.  The students did an excellent job using their "voice" to demonstrate these feelings.

After lunch, we continued to work on our children's books in Social Studies. The First Nations legends are coming along very nicely!

French and Phys Ed closed out the day.

After recess, the students enjoyed Art class with Mrs. Schentag.

We started a partner Problem Solver today that focuses on using fractions and working backwards to solve. We will continue this next class.

The students were introduced to a new set of centers this morning. Great day 1 everyone!!

After recess, we started our next Math unit: Fractions and Decimals. The students worked through 3 stations:
1) Computers
2) Identifying and coloring given fractions.
3) Comparing fractions using a fraction chart.
The Measurement "Show What You Know" was also given back to the students. Please sign and return these tomorrow.

We then moved onto our next trait in Writing...Voice. We looked at various examples that provided different voices and demonstrated different emotions. We will be using voice on various short writes next class.

The students then headed down to Phys Ed where they continue to practice for Wednesday's track meet. Please make sure you are here by 8:45 as the bus is leaving asap Wednesday morning!

We wrapped up the day with discussion about First Nation folklore and legends. Each student was given a copy of a legend that they must now paraphrase and turn into a children's book.

We wrapped up Day 4 of Centers this morning. Great job boys and girls!! We are also wrapping up the Synthesizing and Summarizing unit at Guided Reading. We are currently working on our last activity, Word Splash.

After recess, the students wrote their Measurement unit test. We will start our new unit, Fractions and Decimals, on Monday.

The students had Library with Mrs. Schentag before lunch.

After lunch, we worked on our expository writing pieces for one last class. I'm excited to read the finished products!!

After recess, we discussed friction and readied ourselves for an experiment next class where we will measure the force of gravity required to move an object with various levels of friction acting on it.

Welcome back everyone! I hope everyone had some time to relax and put their feet up! Too bad the weather didn't want to cooperate with us!

We jumped right back into the thick of things today. We completed day 1 of a new set of Centers this morning. The students completed a Synthesising activity that we started before break during Guided Reading.

After recess, Room 20 had Art.

After lunch, we continued to work on the problem solver we started before break. As our school division's problem solver quickly approaches, we continue to sharpen our problem solving skills!

We finished off the day by writing our Conclusions for our Expository piece. We then began to polish our pieces by adding details and working on word choice.

The students then visited the Book Fair during their Library time.

After lunch, we worked on our second paragraph of our First Nations Expository piece. We will work on the remaining paragraphs tomorrow. The students are doing a wonderful job pulling all of their writing skills together.

The students wrapped up Day 3 of Centers this morning. Just a reminder that all activities are due for tomorrow.

After recess, the students worked with Spring Scales to measure the gravitational forces in Newtons of 5 different objects.


We continued to work on our First Nations Expository writing before lunch. The students worked on their first paragraph.

After lunch, we worked in three stations during Math. At station 1, the students completed the problem solver we have been working on. At station 2, the students worked to calculate the volume in cubic meters of various rectangular prisms. At station 3, the students were introduced to capacity and using litres.

Today, the students completed Day 2 of Centers. We are continuing to work on a Jigsaw activity during Guided Reading that is focusing on pulling out the 3 main ideas from a short section of the story.

After recess, the students completed a short "Show What You Know" pertaining to volume using cubic centimeters. We then talked about and completed a short activity using cubic meters.

Before and after lunch we continued to work on our Expository piece of writing for Social Studies. Students wrapped up their research and are beginning to write their first paragraph.

We then had French and Phys Ed.

The students were introduced to a new set of Centers this morning. We will be continuing with summarizing and synthesis during Guided Reading.

After recess, we worked through 3 stations during Math Pods.
1) Computers
2) Calculating perimeter and area of our house plans
3) Constructing rectangles with given perimeter and area

The students also had library before lunch.

After lunch, we talked about how to use quotation marks in our writing. Each student created a sentence that contained quotation marks. We then wrote our sentences on sentence strips and use macaronni as our quotation marks.

We wrapped up our last day of Centers this morning. The students will see a new set of activities on Monday. At guided reading, we worked on a Synthesis Sunday where students had to describe what they learned about a new topic during reading and after reading.

After recess, the students wrote their Science test for the unit Properties and Changes in Matter.

Students were given their unit review for our Governance unit in Social Studies. This unit test will be Friday, March 15.

After lunch, we worked through Math Pods.
1) Computers
2) Exploring Perimeters of Rectangles
3) Creating Rectangles with a Given Area and Perimeter

Students completed Centers this morning. Each of the guided reading groups finished our first lesson with synthesizing and summarizing. We will be working on retelling what new things we learn (synthesize) tomorrow.

After recess, we went over our Science review. There were a few students who were not finished their review. Test is on Friday, March 8.

Students then had Art with Mrs. Schentag.

After lunch, we worked through three stations during Math Pods. We continued to focus on creating rectangles with the same perimeter but different area.

3) Geo Board and building of rectangles practice

After recess, the students had Art with Mrs. Schentag.

We started a new Problem Solver after lunch. The students completed the visualization and connection portion of the template.

The day finished off with French and Phys Ed.

Our Monday started off by completing Day 4 of Centers. We started a new unit today at Guided Reading, focusing on the strategy of synthesizing. (Reminder: Students will not receive spelling words as we will be focusing on how to use our writing skills to find and correct spelling mistakes within our writing.)

We worked through Math pods after recess.
1) Computers
2) Exploring Perimeter of Rectanges (partner problem)
3) Exploring Rectangles with Equal Perimeters

During Writing, we discussed our next Convention, punctuation. Students then choose a piece of writing and used the colored pencils to look for spelling mistakes and identify their punctuation. We will continue with this same piece of writing through the next 3 writing conventions to polish one piece of writing.

The students had Phys Ed with Mr. Leidl.

We finished the day with Social Studies. Students had some time to finish last week's activity, The Reasons for Treaties. We then started our next activity, The Benefits of Treaties. We will continue with this activity next class.

Book orders for the month of March were handed out today. Please have all orders in by Friday, March 8.

The students completed a short assessment on Perimeter to start off our Math class today. The students then worked together to explore the concept of Area.

The students then exchanged their books with Mrs. Schentag during library.

We were treated to a wonderful presentation from a First Nations Elder this afternoon. What a great experience for the students!!

The day wrapped up with French and Phys Ed.

We kicked off our Wednesday with our February assembly. After assembly we worked through three stations.
1) Computers (Students worked to finish typing out their Allen Sapp paragraphs)
2) Independent Reading
3) Perimeter Practice

After recess, we continued to work on Perimeter in Math with 3 stations:
1) Computers
2) Partner game
3) Perimeter practice
We also played a game...boys vs girls...which helped us to practice perimeter. The boys earned the bragging rights along with some snazzy new pencils ;)

After lunch, we talked about the reasons why the British Crown and the First Nations peoples wanted to develop Treaties. We will continue with this next class.

Phys Ed closed out the day.

2) The students worked with Mrs. Gale to play a game where they had to try to fill up their playing board by drawing various rectangles with different perimeters.
3) The students worked with me to construct various rectangles with different perimeters using the geoboards.

We started out our day like every other with Centers. We completed Day 3. Remember to study for your spelling test tomorrow!

After recess, the students completed a short assessment piece on converting measurements. We also discussed our latest problem solver and its' possible solutions. Great job boys and girls!! Lastly, we started to discuss perimeter and used the geoboards to try to construct various quadrilaterals with a given perimeter. We will tackle this concept after break.

I am not here tomorrow so there won't be a blog post. I hope everyone enjoys the February break and gets to spend some quality time with your family. Travel safe for those of you who are venturing to a sunny destination, snowy mountains, or any other adventure.

After recess, we discussed Raw Material verses Manufactured Material in Science. The students worked with a partner to try to identify a variety of materials, as well as discuss some of the every day objects that we wear or use.

The students who didn't get a chance to present their powerpoint's got a chance today. We then watched a short video on Treaties from the Office of the Treaty Commissioner titled Treaties and the Law.

After lunch, we worked through 3 stations in Math.

The students were introduced to a new set of Centers this morning. We are continuing to inferr during Guided Reading.

After recess, we worked through three stations in Math.
Station 1: Corrections from yesterday (conversions and measurement)
Station 2: Measuring length and "SNAP"
Station 3: Computers

We continued to work on our recent problem solver while some students also worked to type our their Allen Sapp paragraphs.

After lunch, we discussed the Treaty activity we did last Social class. We also watched a short video,  We Are All Treaty People, helping to explain what a Treaty is.

As we begin this last week before our Winter Break, the students were given their Lesson 19 spelling words. Many students are forgetting to get their TWAS signed or to simply bring them back to school. Please remind your son or daughter that these are very important to share with you and to return them to school.

After recess, we began typing out our Allen Sapp paragraphs. We will continue tomorrow.

After lunch, we worked through Math pods.
Station 1: We continued to work with converting different units of measurement.
For example, 20 cm = 200 mm.
Station 2: Students had to measure 10 items in the classroom using centimeters and millimeters.

We kicked off the afternoon with a problem solver. The students are working with a partner to try to solve this problem. We are focusing on solving the problem and checking our work.

We started a fresh set of Centers this morning. We are continuing to work on inferring at Guided Reading. Some groups are working on using the title of the story to make inferences, while others are making inferences when they come across unknown words.

After recess, we finished our Bulletin Board problem solver and checked it together. Remember boys and girls, pay attention to the details within the problem.
We also started our Measurement unit today with the students measuring the length of different body parts in cm.

The students had library before lunch.

After lunch, we began the Conventions trait of 6+1 Wrting. With this trait, we will be focusing on spelling, grammar, and punctuation. We worked together as a class to identify various conventions on a given paragraph. We will use these skills tomorrow when we choose an individual paragraph to work on.

The day wrapped up with French and Phys Ed.

Welcome to February!! February always seems to fly by so quickly!! We completed our latest group of Centers this morning. We are continuing to work on inferences, as we began to use the title of a story today to help us make an inference.

After recess, we discussed reversible and non-reversible changes in Science. We worked through 4 stations in Science and made predictions.

We then continued to present our Prime Minister powerpoints. The students did such a wonderful job and worked extremely hard to put these together.

After lunch, we worked through Math pods. At station 1, students worked with me to correct their Division test reviews. Please remember the test is on Thursday, February 7. Binders were sent home with students today. At station 2, students worked with Mrs. Clarke to sharpen their division fact skills.  Station 3 was on the computer.

The day wrapped up with Phys Ed.

We were treated to our second January assembly this morning with a wonderful performance from Kindergarden.

We came back to our room and continued to work on our Allen Sapp writing assignment that will wrap up our Word Choice unit.

After recess, the students had Art with Mrs. Schentag.

We shared some of our problem solvers from last week after lunch. We then began solving a problem that we will continue to tackle tomorrow.

French and Phys Ed closed out the day!

We are continuing to work on Inferring during Guided Reading. We completed Day 2 of Centers as well.

After recess, we continued to work on long division with both repeated subtraction and place value. The students seem to be gravitating to one of these two strategies. Keep practicing grade 5...and remember to check your subtraction.

Before lunch, we finished up our Sensory Words paragraphs. Great job boys and girls!

Students were given their writing project for our Word Choice unit. The students have each chosen an Allen Sapp painting, a famous Saskatchewan First Nations artist. We will be using these pictures to write a descriptive paragraph focusing on word choice and details.

The students then enjoyed a Phys Ed class with Mrs. Bernath as Mr. Leidl wasn't here today.

We finished the day with Social Studies where we continued to work on our PowerPoint presentations.

We wrapped up our last set of Centers this morning. The students wrote their spelling test as well as their TWAS.

After recess, the students presented their Science experiments. Great job boys and girls!!

We then continued to work on our Prime Minister PowerPoints which are coming together very nicely!

After lunch, we continued to practice long division using repeated subtraction. We will be looking at a second strategy on Monday.

We ended our day and week with Phys Ed.

As we worked through Day 3 of Centers this morning, the students continued to focus on the inferring strategy. We are discussing strategies for inferences based on characters and their dialogues found within a story.

After recess, we continued to work on the Repeated Subtraction strategy for long division. This is one of two strategies we will be using for long division. Please ask your son or daughter to explain it to you if you are unsure as I'm sure for most of you this is new ;)
We also worked on our Prime Minister powerpoints today. We will continue to work on these in class. They are really coming together nicely.

French and Phys Ed rounded out our day.

We started a new set of Centers this morning. Students were also given their spelling words for this week as we missed them yesterday with the buses not running.

After recess, the students had Art with Mrs. Schentag.

We wrapped up our problem solver that we have been working on for the past few days but extending our solution.

Brrrr!! It's definitely cold out there!! We stayed warm inside today!!

We started off the morning combining with Room 18!! We worked through various stations:
1) Independent Reading
2) Division Checkers
3) Computers
4) Multiplication War
5) Teacher's Quiz

After recess, we got back to our regular schedule. We complete Math stations.
1) Xtra Math (Computers)
2) Front End Rounding
3) Compatible Numbers

We then moved into 6+1 Writing where the students completed their Sensory Words activity by picking a setting and describing it using the 5 senses. We will be using this graphic organizer to write a paragraph next class.

After lunch, we worked on gathering research for our Prime Minister powerpoint projects.

The day ended with a double period of Phys Ed.

We completed day 4 of Centers this morning. We wrote our Spelling Test as well as our TWAS.

After recess, we completed 3 stations in Math.
1) Computers
2) Front End Rounding with Division
3) Compatible Numbers with Division

The students then had library with Mrs. Schentag.

After lunch, we worked on Sensory Words during 6+1 Writing. We worked on an example together and the students will work on their own next class.

We finished the day with French and Phys Ed.

We completed Day 3 of Centers this morning. We continued to work with the reading strategy of Inferring. We are specifically looking at making inferences with particular characters from the stories we are about to read.

After recess, the students worked in pairs to further their Science experiments. Students will have one more class to complete this activity.

The students were then introduced to their Social Studies project: Powerpoint presentation on a Prime Minister of their choice. We will work on our research next class.

After lunch, the students worked through 3 Math stations.
1) Multiplication game with Mrs. Clarke
2) Introduction to Front End Rounding with Division
3) Computers

The day wrapped up with Phys Ed.

Our day started out with some wonderful entertainment from Grade 3 during our school assembly. After assembly, we continued to work on a problem solver that we started a few days ago.

Students were given back their Multiplication tests this morning. Please sign and return these tomorrow. We started our next unit, Division!! We worked through 3 stations:
1) Computers
2) Show me division where students had to draw what a division question would look like.
3) Fact families where we connected multiplication to division.

We then went down to the computer lab to complete a Better Words For... activity in 6+1 Writing. Each student was given a different word to find more exciting words for.

After lunch, we discussed the three levels of government in Social Studies then played a game where I gave the students a scenario and they had to identify which level of government would be involved.

We wrapped up the day with French and Phys Ed.

Reminder...we will be working on our Science experiments tomorrow so please remember to bring your supplies!

Welcome back to another week! We started a new set of Centers this morning and were given our Lesson 16 spelling words. Some of the students have shifted into new groups and possibly into a different classroom. Great job boys and girls!

After recess, the students had Art with Mrs. Schentag.

We started a new Problem Solver after lunch in which the students completed the visualization and connections portion of the template. We are focusing on using the Rubric to help guide the steps we take to solve.

We then had French and Phys Ed. We finished off the day with Read Aloud.

After recess I collected the unit review that was homework for yesterday.  Only 4 students had completed it! Some still did not complete the review over the course of the morning so they will be bringing it home again tonight. Tomorrow is the last day that I will accept any late work as the test is on Tuesday!

Room 20 had library with Mrs. Schentag before they were dismissed for Early Dismissal.

We worked through 4 stations this morning to begin our day.

3) Cross Multiplication
4) Math Review (Test: Tuesday, January 15)

After recess, we spent some time completing the Classifying Material activity that we started last class. We then watched a short video discussing physical and chemical changes of materials and completed a video quiz with a partner.

In Social, we kicked off our new unit with a short video introduces the students to our Canadian Government. The students then had to brainstorm 10 different things that they could associate with the Canadian Government.

After lunch, we continued to work on Cross Multiplication and our Unit Review. The review is homework for tonight if students did not get complete. We also worked on Xtra Math during computers. Congratuations to Mathew and Ryder who are the first students to complete and master their addition facts with 3 seconds! They will now move on with subtraction!

The day was finished off with Phys Ed.

We wrapped up day 4 of Centers this morning. The students handed in their activities. We are in the process of changing the guided reading groups around so we will not have centers again until Monday.

After lunch, we continued to work on Cross Multiplication in math. We worked with 2-digit by 2-digit. We will continue with this tomorrow as we need to iron out some kinks ;)

We continued to work on Word Choice during Writing. We worked in partners to "spice up" a story by changing words or adding new words, without changing the meaning of the story.

After lunch, we had some fun in the computer lab playing math games. We then went down to French. The day finished up with Phys Ed.

As we begin our first full week back after break, the students worked hard today! We completed day 3 of Centers this morning. Students were given their Lesson 15 spelling words this morning. Remember to practice your words throughout the week.

After recess, we talked about classifying different materials as solids, liquids, or gases using the scientific definitions during Science.

The students had Art with Mrs. Schentag before lunch.

After lunch, the students completed a short Show What You Know for Partial Product. Great job boys and girls! We then started to discuss Cross Multiplication of 2 digit by 1 digit. We will work tomorrow with 2 digit by 2 digit.

Welcome back everyone! I hope everyone has had a fresh and happy start to the New Year!!

We kicked off the New Year with Centers this morning. We have a few things to wrap up with the questioning strategy and will continue with this for a few weeks.

After recess, we continued with the Partial Product strategy we started with in December. The students remembered quite a bit of it!! Yahoo!! The students also worked to sharpen their multiplication tables by playing multiplication war with each other, as well as working on the blog games.

We also completed "Graphitti Words" before lunch. Students had 30 seconds to write down what came to their minds when they saw a variety of different words. We will continue with the word choice trait throughout the month of January.

After lunch, the students completed a "Stretch Your Word" activity where they had to take a noun and describe it two ways to "stretch" its' description. We also worked on a short paragraph to add or change existing words to more exciting word choice.

The day wrapped up with Read Aloud and a quick visualization activity.
