Welcome back after a nice long Winter break! It seems that the year keeps flying by quicker than we can blink an eye.
We continued working on our Creative Writing stories that we started yesterday. Students were to complete an organizational chart including at least 4 events that happened over the break. We are working on writing that follows a timeline. We discussed the use of transition words in our writing today as well. Students are to review their piece and include the use of transition words to make their writing flow together.
We corrected our math assignment from yesterday and began discussing thousandths.
In social studies we watched a short video introducing Christopher Columbus. The video can be found at:

What crazy weather we are having...another day of cancelled buses!! This morning, students worked on their Science reports. They then enjoyed their SCAMO goal after recess!! With only 10 students, they enjoyed playing in the snow and the fresh air!!

Hopefully we will be able to get back to the grind if the weather cooperates! See you tomorrow.

Students started off the day by working on their Creative Writing assignments from yesterday. Everyone completed their story focusing on details. The stories and pictures are displayed in the hallway. See if you can match the picture to the story!!
We then took our last class to work on our Novel Study projects. These projects are due on Friday, February 13. If students are not finished, they must work on their projects at home.
During math, we started to explore how to connect fractions to decimals. Students worked on creating a vegetable garden today and, for homework, have to find as many equivalent fractions as they can for their vegetable fractions. We will use this assignment on Monday to explore the world of decimals!

February newsletters were sent home with the students today. We will be curling on Monday so please make sure your son or daughter has a clean pair of shoes to wear. Also note the Valentine's Day party and who is responsible for the lunch. Thanks! Have a great weekend!!

Students have a good start on their Novel Study final projects. Students were to chose between designing a new cereal box related to their novel or to create a picture book for students in Grade 1 or 2. These projects are due Friday, February 13.
Students were given their math quizzes back today. Please sign and return tomorrow. I have listed the mark (from 1-5) for each section on the test. We also worked together in small groups to complete a problem using the strategy of Working Backwards.
Creative Writing gave us a chance to begin a descriptive story of a picture. Each student was given a picture that they are required to write a story about using their 5 senses. We are again focusing on detail and making our writing more interesting.
We ended the day with Social Studies by reviewing the questions students completed using the Internet. We also watched part I of a video covering the Vikings and their journeys to North America.
