The students worked very hard this morning during Day 2 of Centers. Great job boys and girls. Please keep an eye out for the TWAS that is on it's way home.

After recess, we worked to complete a glossary activity in Science that we started last class.

We then had our first practice for the Christmas concert. You are definitely in for a real treat once again this year!!

After lunch, we worked through 3 stations in Math. The students practiced Breaking it Down, Making Connections, and their Math facts on the computer.

We rounded off the day with Phys Ed and Read Aloud.

We wrapped up the prediction strategy today during Guided Reading. The students did a wonderful job in discussing how making predictions is a valuable tool in reading. Give yourselves a pat on the back!!

After recess, the students enjoyed Art with Mrs. Schentag.

We worked on a new problem solver today after lunch. The students are doing an excellent job choosing a strategy that will work for them, and also extending their answer.

The day came to an end with Read Aloud.

* Remember tomorrow is the last day for book orders!

The students continued to work on using Story Maps to make predictions during Guided Reading. The students are doing an excellent job incorporating all of the strategies we have discussed about making predictions...from connections to text features!

After recess, we worked through 3 Math stations. At station 1 we practiced the Halving and Doubling strategy. Station 2 was on the computer practicing our addition facts using Xtra Math. We worked at station 3 to discuss a new multiplication strategy, Breaking it Down. We will continue with this strategy next Math class. Super job everyone!!

We are moving onto our next writing strategy, Word Choice, in 6+1 Writing. We completed a Thesaurus activity today with a partner that helped us practice where to find synonyms.

During Social Studies, we worked on finding the origins of 5 different cities/towns in Canada. As we wrap up our Multicultural unit, the students will be receiving a unit review shortly.

We completed Day 3 of Centers this morning. At guided reading, the students are working on making predictions using a story map. We will continue with this tomorrow.

During Math station, the students continued to practice their addition facts using Xtra Math. Students also practiced their multiplcation facts playing the partner game The Big Table. At teacher table, we continued to practice the multiplication strategy of Halving and Doubling.
We then headed down to exchange our library books.

After lunch, we continued to complete our final draft for Our Most Important Person writing pieces. The students used their Presentation checklists to complete this activity.

The students then had French with Mrs. Orosz.

The students were introduced to a new set of centers this morning. We also wrote our Spelling test for lesson 11. We also wrote our TWAS for this week. Last week there were quite a few students who forgot to return their TWAS. Please remind them to bring them back on Monday.

After recess, we worked to complete our estimation activity from yesterday. We also worked on some corrections.

We continued to discuss Presentation in 6+1 Writing before lunch. The students are beginning to work on presenting a piece of their writing following the presentation rubric.

After lunch, we discussed the Immigration Canada website and how it could be helpful for a person who has immigrated to Canada.

The students then had French and Phys Ed.

We rounded off the day with Science where we began to work on our glossary for our new unit: Properties and Changes in Materials.

The students worked extra hard this morning to complete Day 3 of Centers. We wrapped up using connections to help us make predictions at the guided reading table.

After recess, we worked on using estimation with multiplication. We are using the same three strategies (compensation, front end rounding, and compatible numbers) as we used with addition and subtraction. The students did a wonderful job!!

We moved onto our last activity for the organization trait of 6+1 Writing. Students wrote their own If I Were in Charge of the World poem. Great job everyone!
The students had Phys Ed before recess.

We finished the day with Social Studies coloring an immigration graph that demonstrates where most Canada's immigrant population is originating from.

Welcome back to another beautiful week! We completed day 2 of Centers this morning. Students were given their lesson 11 spelling words. Please practice these words nightly.

After recess, we wrote our Science test. I will have these back to you as soon as I can.

We then had library with Mrs. Schentag.

After lunch, we completed our Important Person stories in 6+1 Writing.

The students then headed to French.

We wrapped up the day with some cross country skiing!

*I will have interview times for you very shortly. I am waiting on a few other classrooms with siblings before I can schedule.

We completed Day 4 of Centers this morning. At guided reading, we discussed how using Connections help us to make Predictions when reading as well. We will continue with this activity on Tuesday.

After recess, we began our Multiplication and Division unit in Math. The students worked at their basic multiplication facts at the independent station. I strongly encourage the students to practice their facts nightly as they are essential for success in this unit. At the teacher table, we discussed multiplying by multiples of 10, 100, and 1 000. The links on the blog gave the students an opportunity to practice their facts during the computer station.
The students are also bringing home their Math tests for you to see. They all did an excellent job!! Please remember to sign these and send them back to school tomorrow.

We also continued to work on our Important Person writing pieces. Students will get one more day to completed this activity.

After lunch, students completed their Science reviews for Monday's test. I will check these over tonight and get them back to the students tomorrow.

French and Phys Ed wrapped up the day.

We completed Day 3 of Centers this morning. We wrapped up our Important Word Prediction activity during guided reading. We will be using connections tomorrow to help us to make predictions.

Students were given their Science Unit Test review for the Human Body unit. Our test will be on Monday, November 19.

The students had Art with Mrs. Schentag before lunch.

We wrote our Whole Numbers unit test after lunch today. I will have these back to the students tomorrow.

We then had Phys Ed with Mr. Leidl.

We continued with Read Aloud to finish off the day by reading our next chapter in The Nexus Ring. The students continue to make predictions and check their predictions after every chapter.

After recess, students headed down to Art with Mrs. Schentag.

We began to solve a problem solver with a partner after lunch today. We will continue next class. Great job boys and girls in choosing a variety of problem solving strategies to solve.

Students then had French.

We finished the day with Phys Ed and Read Aloud.

The PJ Gillen Remembrance Day program was held this morning.

We reviewed the study guide this morning for the Math test on Wednesday. Students took home their Math binders to study over the weekend.

We completed Day 1 of Centers after recess. Students wrote their Lesson 9 spelling test and completed a TWAS for this week.

After lunch, students used their graphic organizers to begin their writing pieces on "The Most Important Person In My Life."

We then had Phys Ed with Mr. Leidl.

We finished off the day with Social Studies. We discussed citizenship and the process of becoming a Canadian citizen.

We jumped right into Centers this morning and completed Day 3. We continued to work on our Sticky Note Questions predictions activity during guided reading.

After recess, we worked through three stations during Science. Students worked through a "Get Healthy, Stay Healthy" station where they had to list 2 things they learned after reading each section. At the second station, students read "How Does Technology Influence Your Health" and devoped an idea as to how they would improve their body using technology. The third station was computer based.

Before lunch, we completed our Trends and Challenges activity from yesterday's Social Studies class.

During Math stations, students worked with Mrs. Clarke to practice subtraction. At my station, students determined whether completed questions were estimated or computed. The third station was on the computer where students are working with a new website, XtraMath, to practice their math facts. The students have been encouraged to practice these facts at home as well.
The Whole Numbers unit test will be on Wednesday, November 14. I will give each student a unit review tomorrow.

We wrapped up the day with Phys Ed and Read Aloud.

We continued to work on making predictions during guided reading this morning. Students completed Day 2 of Centers.

During Math, students used estimation to check to see if their addition or subtraction was correct.

We began working on a writing piece, "The Most Powerful Person in My Life," during 6+1 Writing. Students completed their graphic organizer and we will use this next writing class to begin writing our rough draft.

After lunch, we used the 2011 Census results for Esterhazy to indentify some trends and challenges.

The students had French and Phys Ed.

We rounded out the day with Science. Students worked independently to read and answer questions about "What Protects Your Body?"

We completed Day 4 of Centers this morning and handed in our activities. We also wrote our spelling test and our TWAS for this week.

After recess, the students had Art with Mrs. Schentag.

During problem solving, we reviewed the problem we solved earlier in the week and wrote our steps together.

The students then had French and Phys Ed.

We finished the day with Read Aloud.

We completed our Prediction activities that we started yesterday during guided reading today. Remember to study for your spelling test tomorrow.

After recess, we completed a Math Huddle about Fractions. Great job Room 20!! We also completed a quick assessment using Front End Rounding to estimate with subtraction. We then practiced using Compatible Numbers to estimate subtraction questions.

We discussed various ways to end our writing during 6+1 Writing. Students worked with a partner to develop a new ending for a given fairy tale.

The students enjoyed Phys Ed with Mr. Schram.

We closed out the day with Social Studies. We discussed the Canadian Census. Students completed an activity where they had to make a decision for a town based on the census results.
