Sorry for missing yesterday's blog!!
Today is International Literacy Day. We started our day with a Literacy Assembly in the gym this morning. Students watched the following YouTube video created by a middle school in California:
After watching the video, students broke off into 12 groups as a whole school and read two books with their assigned teacher. We then created bookmarks that will be shared with other students all over the world!!
After recess, students had Art with Mrs. Schentag.
To start off our afternoon, we continued to work on our Problem Solver that we started last week. Students are using the Creating a Pattern strategy to solve the problem we are working on. They are doing an excellent job!
We finished off our afternoon with Social Studies. Students worked in pairs to discuss transportation routes and ways of communication in a variety of scenarios throughout the world.
Mr. Leidl made the day complete with Phys. Ed!!
Book orders are due by Friday, September 10.
YESTERDAY
We completed our second day of Centers yesterday. Students got their first spelling list at Guided Reading. Their first spelling test will be Friday. Students have written their spelling words in their agenda to study from.
During writing we continued to work on the Ideas trait. Students drew a "Treasure Map" of their ideas and picked one of their treasures to write about. The students are doing a wonderful job digging for some great ideas!!
In math, students worked on pages 11/12 (2 a,b,c, and 3). This assignment was for homework if not completed. We also watched our Born Numeracy video that we created our first week of school. The students worked in their pods to take math pictures around the school. We then compiled these pictures to make our own video!!
We finished off the day by reading the next two chapters in our read aloud, Hatchet!!
